Sunshine & Fog

  • Forecast for the coming week is good - with temperatures believed to have hit the high teens this afternoon
  • But balmy weather is likely bring more fog misery as rapidly falling temperatures in evenings increases air moisture
  • Thick layer of fog covered much of Britain today - causing a number of flights to be cancelled around the country
  • Met Office issues yellow-level fog warning for tonight and tomorrow, with more heavy fog predicted over weekend
  • Earlier, flights were cancelled at London City Airport - where forecasters said visibility had fallen to just 100 metres
  • There were also a number of cancellations at Heathrow, Gatwick and Manchester airports earlier this morning

Britain basked in 17C weather this afternoon, as a think blanket of fog gave way to a beautiful spring day in many parts of the country.
The forecast for the next ten days is good - with the high-teen temperatures that moved into Central and South East England this afternoon likely to last for more than a week.
The balmy weather is set to bring more fog misery however, with the Met Office issuing a yellow-level warning in large parts of the country for tomorrow morning.

As the morning mist clears the afternoon brought a hot spring day on Gyllyngvase beach

A spokeswoman for the Met Office said ‘We’re expecting the fog to clear completely by lunchtime and give way to temperatures in the high teens – maybe 16C or 17C – later this afternoon.’
‘We are expecting widespread fog across much of the country again tomorrow, and again that will clear and give way to warmer weather later in the day.’
‘Looking into the weekend, we’ll have a cloudy day on Saturday, with rain in Scotland and it will be relatively cloudy and breezy across the country.’
‘Sunday will be sunny again, with Eastern England seeing the best of the weather. The West Coast will be cloudy with occasional drizzle all day’.
The early-morning fog is occurring thanks to the warm daytime weather giving way to dramatically cooler weather when the sun goes down.
