The Beauty of Japan's Largest Wisteria Plant.

The pictures I am about to show you are of Japan’s largest Wisteria plant, also known as Wistaria. It is located in the Ashikaga Flower Park and while it's not the biggest in the world, many people say it is the most impressive. The size of the 140 year old plant, which looks more like a tree, is about 1,990 square meters (half an acre) and it is held up by a complex structure of steel supports. Visitors are allowed to walk below and bask in the pink and purple light of the sun as it comes through the canopy. A truly amazing sight I am thankful I got to see.

Come Inside A Hidden Bar

 

There’s a vintage Coca-Cola vending machine in Shanghai that hides a delightful and tasty secret – it’s actually a door into a stylish up-scale speakeasy called “Flask.”

The otherwise unassuming Coca-Cola machine stands in The Press, a sandwich shop that operates as a front for the trendy bar hidden behind it. As Alberto Caiola, the architect who designed this establishment, writes, “the fun, lighthearted feel, the bright colours and lighting [in The Press] —within a few steps, these elements segue into a mysterious space with warm, muted lighting and the murmurs of bar patrons to invite further curiosity. ”

The interior fuses both modern and speakeasy-era elements effortlessly, with vintage sofas, muted copper-colored lighting, and a wall covered in 25-litre whiskey bottles.

Ronit Baranga a sculptor

My name is Ronit Baranga and I am a sculptor. In the following series of works, I sculpted human mouths and fingers emerging from tableware. The blurred border between the living and the still in these works is intriguing. It is fascinating. It is daunting. It makes you think.

In this combination of the “still” and the “alive” joined as one, I try to change the way in which we observe useful tableware. The useful, passive, tableware can now be perceived as an active object, aware of itself and its surroundings – responding to it. It does not allow to be taken for granted, to be used. It decides on its own how to behave in the situation.

This is how I prefer to think about my plates and cups. Metaphorically, of course. What about you… ?
