 ENJOY!!! On Top of Mumbai

So went the first photo report from my trip to Asia as part of Urban Exploration. Today I want to tell you about the largest city of India, Mumbai.
Mumbai contrasts are striking. More than any other metropolis of the world - except, perhaps, Sao Paulo - it is a world of contrasts. It adjoins the antiquity to the present, with the luxury of misery. The city has many night clubs and churches, secular people and religious fanatics. In Mumbai the biggest slums and the most expensive real estate in Asia.

1. University of Mumbai. Classy beautiful example of architecture built during the colonization of India.

2. Ambassador's residence.

3.

4. The campus of the University of Mumbai and a great place for a game of cricket in the city center.

5. Cricket - the most popular sport in the city, it is played many residents. The city has two international stadium for cricket - "Vankhid" and "Braburn." Football - the second most popular sport. Mumbai Marathon is held annually.

6. Chhatrapati Shivaji, to him we shall return, and consider it in more detail.

7.

8. From the roof in Mumbai are all very difficult. The reason is that, in each entrance of an apartment / office building sits guard and get through it is often very difficult, they talk only in Hindi and something to explain to them is practically impossible. But that's not all, on the roofs often entire families can live, which is also not happy to see you at home.

9. Pier Mumbai left the Arabian Sea on the horizon, one can see skyscrapers in the business center of the city.

10. Gateway of India - basalt arch in the Indo-Saracen style with a characteristic architecture of Gujarat, which was founded on the seafront in Bombay after the coronation of King George V's visit in December 1911 View from the roof of Hotel Taj Mahal. Due to a series of terrorist attacks to the gate to get problematic weekend to defend decent turn of a few hundred meters away, something to pass through metal detectors.

11. Arabian Sea.

12.

13. City center, in the background one can see skyscrapers in the station-Mumbai Central.

14. One of these high-rises - this five-star hotel FourSeasons. A unique place with one hand surrounded by slums, the other being constructed skyscrapers of the business district of Mumbai.

15. In the restaurant we are unfortunately not allowed, the dress code is not passed, this had to climb onto the roof.

16. Offers a height of 130 meters, one of the 20 tallest buildings of Mumbai.

17.

18. People burn garbage on the outskirts of the slums. That's such a cool view opens the residents of five-star hotels.

19. On one side of the slums, the other fast-growing business center of the city. Chic contrast.

20.

21. Hippodrome and skyscrapers in Mahalaxmi.

22.

23.

24. Peninsula Business Park at the station of Lower Parel.

25. Imperial tower in Mumbai-Central.

26.

27. Imperial - high-rise complex, which is a pair of towers, skyscrapers, in Mumbai. Height of towers - 240 meters. The tallest building in the city.

28. Palais Royale - on completion it will be the tallest skyscraper in Mumbai. Height of 320 meters. Our attempts to get on this construction site at night, were defeated, extremely well able to protect the Indians of their buildings, such as the first time I saw that-be barbed wire on the fence construction was put on to electricity.

29.

30. Playground on the roof of one of the houses in Mumbai-Central.

31. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus - one of the busiest railway stations in India. As India's largest airport is named after the national hero of India Chhatrapati Shivaji.

32. The railway station is a very intricate, even pretentious, a combination of traditional Victorian Gothic Revival architecture with the motives of the Indo-Saracenic style (stone dome, turrets, pointed arches and complicated plan). Station is a symbol of Mumbai as a major international trading port in India. In 2004, the station was included in the World Heritage List.

33. To get on the roof of Station in the afternoon - almost impossible, in this, we had to sneak back at night while we were sleeping policemen with Nastya on scaffolding climbed to one of the sections of the station, and from there get to the dome.

34. Inside the station is decorated with wood carvings, iron and brass railings, the main staircase is made with a balustrade.

35.

36. Unfortunately the city at night saves on lighting, and other than a few shots there is nothing to shoot.

37. In the city there is no subway, on the huge number of people are using the train, they go into the city center almost every 2-3 minutes. During rush hour, at times, such hustle that you are literally taken out of the car.

38. Dharavi, the area in Mumbai, India, became the "backdrop" for the film "Slumdog Millionaire." Dharavi - this is the biggest slum in Asia, is home to more than 1 million people.

39. Traffic at the station Mahima Dzhunktion.

40.

41. In Dharavi survive for more than one million people. Such densely populated slum nowhere else in Asia. There is a school, a church, a mosque, a bakery production plant and, of course, the huge garbage. In the slums are not only bachelors, but a lot of families. Often in the same area of 11.10 square meters of the house there are three generations, ie 8-10 people. In the slums there are schools, both private and public. In a private school education paid, costs about Rs 200 -300 per month or 4-6 dollars.

42. Rent a room here in this house you can for 3-5 dollars a month.

43. Most of the population of Mumbai caste "untouchables." Untouchables are not included in the four varnas. They are deemed capable of profane members of the upper castes, especially the Brahmins. Untouchables are divided on traditional activities of their representatives, as well as areas where they live. The most common category of untouchables - Chamars (tanners), dhobi (washerman), the Dalits. For more details on Wikipedia

44. Inside the slums created a real tin, children run around, cattle and all around a lot of garbage. A foreigner coming into the interior of the area, it is very rare, this one child or adult is committed to say hello or just to walk over you.

45. Settlement near the station Mahima-Dzhunktion.

46. Thus ended Mumbai.

47. Next stop Bangkok.
