Dear Sir/ Madam,
INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE OF BEST MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
Management is a discipline, in which knowledge lies very much in practice. Bridging the theory and practice is the crux of the problem in teaching management science. Programmes both within and outside the curriculum should be devised to provide more and more real time experience and industry exposure to students as well as teachers.
Best Management Practices (BMPs) are approaches based on known science that, if followed, should allow the practioner to meet the required standard(s) or achieve the desired objective(s). BMP exist to help and act as a steward of the environment for better management and effectiveness.
Management science should help different managers and policy makers to make optimal, if possible, or satisfactory, at least, informed decisions. VIMS being a strong research focused organization contemplate to build six interfaces:
1. Between management science theory and application
2. Between management scientists and managers
3. Between "hard" decision models and "soft" decision models
4. Between a specific strategy and an individual model
5. Between a corporation and its environment, as well as the whole of society and lastly
6. Study the best management practices followed in the industry/community
It is an earnest endeavour of VIMS to encourage such autonomous and spontaneous initiatives among faculty members to garner the myriad practices in a variety of organizational settings and closely work with industry in the pursuit of assisting each other. In this endeavour, VIMS plans to organize a set of intitiatives and to begin with an International conference of “Best Management Practices” with a view to give exclusive focus on the practical aspects of business and industry.
The information emanating from the conclave is expected to help and to ensure better effectiveness of your enterprise activity however small the delta is created by its initiatives. By understanding the standard activities must meet, one can choose an appropriate set of guidelines and best practices to help carry out activities to achieve the required standards and objectives in the sphere of activities.
BMPs essentially can have a provincial and/or regional context. For instance, the best practices in North India may be different from the best in South and vice versa. The best in one industry need not necessarily be the best in another and so on. Provincial research/documents apply to the entire province but may contain region specific sections. Regional research/documents have been developed for a specific purpose and may not be applicable to other regions. But the whole idea is to disseminate a broad spectrum of ideas with regards to the best practices across the industry and allow the prudence of the industry to choose the best fit for them in a given context.
Salient Features of the Programme
ü Closely observing the specific industry practice at micro-level
ü Relating the practice to a concept /theory and dovetailing the theory – practice link
ü Inferences to be drawn from truly original source, i.e., Industry/ Business
ü Identifying Best Management Practice (BMP) in a specific area
ü Co-partnership with industry persons /executives in the academic exercise.
The above framework may be the basis for selecting a theme and context for drawing out the best practices, and adding to the fund of knowledge.
- The conference will be a one day event during the month of September 2014.
- It is proposed to select ten write ups of Best Management Practices for presentation in the conference, allowing 20 minutes each, and the remaining will be circulated.
