ICSSR Sponsored National Conference in Chennai

Dear Esteemed Professor

ICSSR(Indian Council of Social Science Research) and Vels University has joined hands in organising two days National Conference on “Achieving Millennium Development Goals (MDG) - Challenges and Future”, on 13th and14th of March 2014. This conference will give a platform for academicians, industry professionals and research scholars to exchange research findings. The conference will also enable the participants to connect to experts and build association with researchers.

This National Conference focuses on the Eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), that were officially established following the Millennium Summit of the United Nations in 2000.These goals were expected to be achieved by the year 2015. The various goals are:

1. To eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

2. To achieve universal primary education

3. To promote gender equality and empowering women

4. To reduce child mortality rates

5. To improve maternal health

6. To combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases

7. To ensure environmental sustainability

8. To develop a global partnership for development

As of 2013 progress towards the goals was uneven. Some countries achieved many goals,

while others were not on track to realize any.
