Workshop on Korean Trade and Investment in the Greater Mekong Sub-Region
Sponsored by the Association of Korean Studies
November 1st-2nd, 2013, School of Management, Shinawatra University, BBD Building, 197, Viphawadi-Rangsit Road, Bangkok 10400.
The Republic of Korea has become one of the more important trade and investor partners for the Greater Mekong Sub-Region (Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Yunnan Province of China). The country’s involvement has matured from investment in low wage cost competitiveness factories to incorporate advanced infrastructure management and the Hallyu – the Korean wave of pop music, television, films, food and fashion that has completely revolutionized the way that people look at the country. Now Korea is recognized as a leading light in the production of intellectual property and media content.
This workshop aims to explore different aspects of Korean involvement in the Mekong Region from a variety of perspectives – management and economics, sociology and human geography are the principal areas but other approaches are also welcomed. The papers presented will be collected for an edited volume to be published by a reputable international publisher.
Limited funding is available to support scholars wishing to present papers in this workshop who are located within the region. Please submit abstracts to the organizer before October 4th, 2013.
