SANGRUR: Many may term the number 13 as inauspicious, like the beautiful city Chandigarh which has shied away in naming one of its sectors Sector 13.
However, for Badan Singh of village Dhaipei in Ludhiana the number is highly acceptable. Badan has paid Rs 1.13 lakh to get the registration number
PB 13AB 0013 for Rs 1.13 lakh for his Toyota Fortuner at an auction held at Sangrur on Thursday.
Going a step ahead Sanjeev Kumar of Jalalabad fetched the number PB 13AB 1313 for Rs 1.14 lakh for motorcycle, thousand more than the digit 13.
Interestingly number 1313 fetched the second highest bidding after the number 1.
"I like the number and wanted to get it any cost", said Badan.
Punjab finance minister Parminder Singh Dhindsa too loves number 13 and his official Camry car too bears registration number PB 13 Y1313.
Inderjit Singh of Boparai Kalan in Ludhiana paid the biggest amount to purchase the number PB 13AB 0001 for Rs 2.71 lakh for his BMW.
Sangrur DTO Mohinderpal Gupta said, "Such is the craze for fancy numbers among residents that the exchequer got richer by Rs 8.33 lakh by selling only the 10 numbers.
