Finally married! Teenage sweethearts separated during World War Two tie the knot almost 70 years on

  • Bob Humphries, 89 and Bernie Bluett, 87 met as teenagers in South Wales
  • Mr Humphries sent love letters including a marriage proposal that were intercepted by his sweetheart's parents

They became teenage sweethearts on a summer holiday – only to be cruelly separated by the outbreak of the Second World War.
Then Bob Humphries and Bernie Bluett lost touch altogether when her disapproving parents kept his love letters from her, one of which included a marriage proposal.
Now, nearly 70 years after that letter was sent and more than 80 years after they met, Mr Humphries, 89, and Mrs Bluett, 87, have tied the knot.
At last: Bob Humphries and Bernie Bluett step out of St. John's church in Somerset as man and wife- after spending nearly 70 years apart

Mrs Bluett said: ‘The important thing is that we met all those years ago and it must have really left some sort of impression.
‘And when circumstances brought us closer together we finally got married after all these years. Love has taken its sweet time – but I can safely say that we won’t be raising any children together.’
The pair met when Mr Humphries’s family starting going on holiday to the village of Appledore, North Devon, where Mrs Bluett’s family lived.
Mrs Bluett admitted she teased him after they met but began to look at him in a new light when he returned for a final holiday aged 18, after he had joined the Army.
She said: ‘When I saw him when I was 17, and he was 18, and he was this handsome soldier in khakis and the hormones were running wild, I thought I’m going to marry that man one day.’

The couple started dating but lost touch when Mrs Bluett joined the Women’s RAF and moved to South Wales, and Mr Humphries was enlisted with the 3rd Parachute Squadron Royal Engineers in Yorkshire.
For two years Mrs Bluett waited for a reply to her letters, not realising her parents had stepped in to end the romance.
She eventually married Roy Bluett, an RAF pilot for whom she cared as a military nurse, and moved to New Zealand to begin a new life. Meanwhile, Mr Humphries married and moved to Somerset.
Mrs Bluett’s husband passed away 11 years ago and, shortly before Mr Humphries’s wife died last year, the pair got back in touch.

Mrs Bluett’s daughter had searched for him online and found a local newspaper article about his life.
After striking up a correspondence, Mr Humphries proposed again, prompting Mrs Bluett to move to Pawlett in Somerset from New Zealand. She said: ‘When I saw him again, I saw that young soldier. We both feel young at heart.’
The pair, who have ten grandchildren and five great-grandchildren between them, married at the weekend in front of friends and family.
Mr Humphries said: ‘Back in the Forties we were very much in love. It was the kind of love you never forget.
‘There have only ever been two women in my life. Bernie was the first and now she will be the last.’

A To-do List for Life

Being organized has never been a negative for anyone, in fact being organized leads to success more often than not! But how about organizing life like we organize everything else? What about our life’s TO DO list. Here are something we should not miss out on!
Make time for yourself:
Yes, you had struggles to get through, troubles to overcome, loved ones to deal with, and goals to achieve. But a break from it all is more than necessary. It’s perfectly healthy to stop and let the world spin on without you for awhile. It’s good for you to spend time alone. It gives you an opportunity to discover who you really are, and to figure out why you truly are always alone.
Credit your effort despite the result:
Failure keeps you grounded, success keeps you alert, but only faith and determination keeps you going. So stay focused, and celebrate your efforts, not your outcomes. Challenges are what make life interesting, overcoming them is what gives life meaning. Remember that the opposite of failing is not succeeding; the opposite of failing is trying.
React right:
If you can change your thinking, you can change your life. You have a thought process which you ride on when you are alone and quietly thinking. The worth of your life to yourself and others, as well as the happiness it brings, depends upon the way your process works, the baggage it carries, and the emotional space through which it travels. Between life’s stimulus and your reaction is where this space exists; within it is your power to choose how you react, and in your reaction lies your growth, freedom, and happiness.
Listen to your inner voice:
Some people will kill you over time if you let them; and how they’ll kill you is with tiny, harmless phrases like, “be realistic.” When this happens, close your ears and listen to your inner voice instead. Remember that real success in life isn’t what others see, but how youfeel. It’s living your truth and doing what makes you feel alive.
Exercise Positivity:
You deserve a day when worries don’t get in the way of your happiness. A day where, even if some people are insensitive or unkind, you’re not going to mind because you realize that the blessings you received are far more precious than the burdens you once experienced. You can create a day like this for yourself. There is power in positivity.
Focus on the next logical step forward:
There are no hopeless situations; there are only people who have grown hopeless about them. So keep your hope alive. Don’t dwell on what went wrong. Instead, focus on what to do next. Spend your energy moving forward toward a solution. If you take full responsibility for yourself and your current situation, you will develop a hunger to accomplish your dreams, and you will discover a way to get there.
Be kind:
The best choice you can make is to be genuinely respectful and authentically kind. Though your kindness will not always be returned, it will certainly be noticed. And even when it’s not fully appreciated by others, your kindness will always inject more positive value into your own life. What you give comes back to you in ways that are impossible to predict. So give your kindness as often as you can, and enjoy the more positive world you are helping to create.
Appreciate people, those that have earned it:
You develop three kinds of friendships in life: friends for a reason, friends for a season, and friends for a lifetime. Take note of who these ‘lifetime friends’ are and never overlook their worth. Just because they are reliable and there when you need them, doesn’t mean you should fail to give thanks and appreciation on a regular basis. To value someone too lightly is to risk missing their goodness before they’re gone.
Be grateful for blessings:
We often take for granted the very things that most deserve our gratitude. What if you gave someone a gift and they neglected to thank you for it? Would you be likely to give them another one? The daily events in your life respond the same way. In order to attract more of the blessings that life has to offer, you must be grateful for what you already have.
Enjoy yourself:
In between all your goals, priorities, obligations, and everything else that might appear on one of your upcoming to-do lists, there are moments called ‘life’ that still have to be lived and enjoyed. The trick is to make the best of each moment, and value it for what it’s worth. In other words, don’t wish all your time away by waiting for better times ahead. Smile, right now, because you can.

"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing."

Whether it’s starting at college or going to a job interview, first-time experiences can be a little daunting. However, they don’t have to be.
Read on to find out how to fool-proof your firsts.

meeting the bf's parentsMeeting the parents for the first time:
A swift straw poll reveals that it’s his mom that you’ve got to work on. Dads, they reckon are a pushover. So imagine you’re your boyfriend’s mum. Until now, she’s been the most important lady in his life. Sounds odd, but she probably feels a teensy bit jealous. So let her know you’re not ‘stealing’ her golden boy by including her in your conversations. “I hear your paneer sabzi is the best.” Moreover, she’ll also feel protective. Will you break his heart or lead him astray? So leave that guy-magnet mini at home and show her you appreciate his inner strengths. Don’t overdo it though, otherwise you’ll come across as fake. Finally, do help clear away the table. By the time you’ve bonded over the washing up, you’ll be his mum’s new best friend.
first day of collegeYour first day at college:
With a crumpled map and a torn timetable falling out of your bag, you finally find your class room…15 minutes late! Minimize new-girl grief by being half an hour early. It’ll give you time to get your bearings instead of entering with a red and flustered face. Don’t forget to turn off your mobile too or risk stares as your embarrassing ringtone echoes painfully through the silence. Everyone feels like a loner on their first day but for no-effort introductions, wear a noticeable accessory like a cute hair clip or a necklace. It’s great for drawing people over to say, “I love your…” And remember, you have the best excuse to start chatting (Excuse me, can you tell me how to find…”)
job interviewGoing for your first interview:
The only aim of a job interview is to find out two things: will you fit in and can you do the work? To tackle the first part, smile to show what a lovely, sunny addition you’ll be and dress like a slightly smarter version of someone who already works there. Do your research: who are the company’s typical customers and competitors? You’ll already see like part of the team. Next, you’ve got to prove you’re up to it. Suppose the job involves dealing with people, what experience do you have? Have you worked in another job like this before? Always be friendly and polite! Before the big day, ask an experienced person to do a mock interview with you. You’ll ooze so much confidence at the real thing that they’ll probably hire you on the spot!
first day of workYour first day at a new job:
It might sound obvious, but being paid means you’re expected to be reliable, so never show up late! No one will expect you to remember everything first time but asking the same thing over and over again can make you feel like a right idiot and busy bosses may get stressed. So take a pocket-sized notebook and note down all Important Things to Remember. Also, ask your new boss in advance what everyone tends to wear. If you look like you already fit in, people will naturally act like you do. Finally, it may feel like Diwali has come early when you discover that one of your colleagues looks like Ranbir Kapoor but save the flirting until you’ve settled in. Chances are, you won’t be his only fan and you need the other girls as friends, not enemies.

Description

Long considered the standard for all organizational behavior textbooks, the fifteenth edition of Organizational Behavior continues its tradition of making current, relevant research come alive for students and instructors.
This edition is one of the most comprehensive and thorough revisions till date.  While maintaining its hallmark features — clear writing style, cutting-edge content, and engaging pedagogy — the fifteen edition has been updated to reflect the most important research and topical issues facing organizations, managers, and employees.

• New opening vignettes, reflecting current business and economic situations: Titan's rebirth; the motivation of secondary school teachers in rural India; and career aspirations of India's youth are just a few examples of case studies that highlight the challenges organizations face in today's world.
• Improved integration of global implications: International research has exploded in recent years; appropriately global OB research is now woven into each chapter, rather than at the end.
• The 'Summary and Implications for Managers' section has been revised, with added focus on practical, on-the-job application.
• More than 80 new photos and captions, featuring the latest developments in OB, are included to supplement and illustrate the main text.
